burning the candle

Burning the candle

Up and into the grind, staying up too late trying to escape the grind.

Burning the candle at both ends. Shortening the life of that candle as it (now) quickly oxidizes into the night. If you go to hard you’ll be lucky to last through the witching hour.

Then there’s the flame thrower approach. Go hard, go fast and burn through your wax like a roman candle.

And that’s just life in modern times. Disease, obesity, chronic fatigue, depression, unwellness, a shortened life span.

As we oxidize and destroy the body we must endeavour to repair and prolong the flesh.

The problem with fuel;

The human machine uses food calories for fuel. Good food = good calories. Unfortunately for us even good food is nauseously over processed in these times. The most common food choices made by many is habitually unhealthy; cereals, McDonalds, pizza, TV dinners , weight watchers, etc.

Stop:

What are you eating? McDonalds? Big Mac and fries? What nutrients are in this meal? None? Lots of toxic calories but zero nutrients. So what’s the alternative. Get some ground beef ( hell have some fun, get some ground buffalo) and make your own burgers. Stack up the veggies. You could have a hamburger patty with salad. You’ve got the big mac minus the bread. Lots of protein, phytochemicals, antioxidants, fibre. Instead of fries how about some carrot sticks or beetroot?

Nothing bad there at all and its not that far removed emotionally from the big mac and fries.

KISS: keep it simple stan;

You don’t need to get a degree in diet and nutrition. Just learn a little bit about what foods belong to which macronutrient group. Don’t eat things from packages.

The problem with hydration;

We like what tastes good. What taste good is sugar. So the powers that be have infused our liquid intake with sugar to get us to buy their products. They’ve taken our precious, life giving water and filled it with poison. No wonder we have health issues and obesity. Want to add 5 years to your life instantly? Stop drinking anything except water. Stop right now.

The problem with rest;

I guarantee, you don’t get enough! Not only do you need to relax, you need to sleep. The taxation upon the human body physically and mentally from lack of sleep is intense. We as a species are so blessed to be able to push and push and continue to function and adapt, but lack of sleep is a slow, sure, killer. As an animal designed to function during daylight hours we sure do spend a lot of time creeping around after dark, and that drains us. It wears us out physically, mentally and emotionally. Gonna have to discipline yourself. Don’t stay up watching the late late late show . Come home instead of staying out all night with your friends. Get some daytime friends. Make yourself go to bed at a descent hour. Count backwards from rising time. Learn to cat nap. And here’s the trick to catnapping. Close your eyes but not your senses. What in hells kitchen do I mean by that. Close your eyes, relax, let your mind drift, but don’t let yourself drift off to sleep. Maintain an awareness of your environment, without allowing your thoughts to become focused. Just 20 min.

i know this is going to hurt

I caught one of the talk shows (and thats what it was; a lot of yapping about nonsence) while I was out surfing the other day ( channel surfing as i cuddled my bundle of joy).

prowler variation

The prowler is a great tool.

Sometimes however, a prowler is not available.

a cool substitution for the prowler is pushing a plate across the floor.

But;

with a damaged shoulder the range of motion required to push a plate across the floor may eliminate it (temporarily) from the tool box.

So;

We, decided to push the bench across the floor.

easy enough on its own , but quickly gets heavy when you start loading it up, the bench that is.

Now this works for me, because the bench is in good condition (powder coated feet) and the floor is carpeted. When the weight starts going up you can observe the 'wave' effect it places on the carpet so beware your floor.

the hard sell

exercise habitual life style change anything that forces us out of our status quo seems like a hard sell. I used to think that health, fitness, strength (STRENGTH), conditioning, well being, longgevity would be wanted by everyone. And it probably is as long as it comes in a magic bean.... ... but; magic beans really don't work dispite late night tv laughomercials. health and longevity does require work. ( i know in todays world of medical wonders they can probably keep you alive indefinately but do you really want to be hooked up to 19+ different kinds of medicines, tubes and machines?) with the media and curent cultural acceptance allowing the growing justification for lack of fitness, poor health and, yes, grotesquiness in society today I shouldn't be surprised that so few people strive for excellence now. The problem, without the reach for excellence there isn't even an achievement of mediocrity! The lack of effort, the lazy approach to life, the loss of manliness and sexy femininity in todays world is evidenced everywhere I look. "do you want to live forever?" ( I can't remember what movie that comes from) but if you do , sorry, but you're gonna have to put in some effort; some hard work. You're going to have to exercise ( but not excesively (see, a soft sell)) you're going to have to control as best you can what goes into your body. Exericse with effort Eat nutrients not sugar. Invest in yourself with effort. fight religiously against sloth. Fill your life with vigour get up and dance move it move it!

kids in

I was inundated by a savage horde of comanche yesterday.
But thats great.
The neighbors kids came flooding through the door ( I have a busy neighbor) while I had some down time.
Great!
and I mean GREAT!
Its so cool that these kids came down and had a great time. They were laughing and playing and jumping around. They were running from every weight and kettlebell and foam roller and trying to pick them up and inventing games to play.
They swung off the rings and ropes and jumped onto and off of the mats.
They had fun
and that fun was contagious. Even my teenager couldn't help but smile and almost laughed.
shouldn't you be showing up at your work outs more like that?

I know , I for one am way serious and maybe way too serious too often when i'm with clients and especially training myself.
(and i've been just where that kitten is)
I think you should be serious in the gym or with your training, but it should be fun as well.
thats why I often try to get away from the gym and train out side.
Those kids were doing full body functional workouts with plyometrics, and they were having a blast

easy come easy go

Easy come, Easy go.
If its easy, chances are its not doing anything for you.
(I'm talking exercise and fitness here )
If your sitting down, its not doing much for you.
If your watching TV, then you're not training.
Watching TV won't get you a Hollywood body or magazine cover physique.
Want a movie star physique in 3 min. Not likely
However;
because i love ya'
3 min pushing a car up a slight incline, no stop,no rest, no catching your breath, push, push, push. Hell, its only 3 min.

3 min alternating between pushups and pull ups. non stop. pushup 1 push up 2 push up 3 till you hit 10 then pullups, then push ups then pull ups. whats wrong with you. hell its only 3 min. do you want a hollywood body. do you..

3 min squat. no! not deep knee bends. step under a bar and squat. what did you squat during your last workout ? what is your 10 rep max? step under some weight and squat for 3 min. do not rack the bar do not give up. cry if you like, but squat. squat. squat. not easy and it will stay with you for a long time.

3 min sand bag cleans. one bag, various bags different weights, 3 min. hard work. no talking. no txting. clean, drop, clean, drop, clean, drop.......3 min. hoo yah

3 min hill sprints. sprint up, quickly walk down, sprint up.

there's something for you to do everyday of the week. won't take long. only 3 min. (just like the infomercial says, but its hard work, something that will benefit you, and hold you in good stead physically and mentally)

3 min. Only 3 min. Not easy, not sitting on your @$$ or kneeling on your swiss ball or laying on your abvoulizer 2000, but a hard 3 min. I guarantee will put you closer to any goals, greek statues or otherwise, that you may have.

no more 2 a.m. infolies. shouldn't you be sleeping and recovering at that hour anyway??

desperate for skinny

So many people are desperate to lose weight !
I'd venture to say 90% of commercial gym members are there to lose weight.
Desperate to lose weight to the point of despair.
Time after time for the last five decades and more, society has shown that for the regular person, the non-athlete, that diets don't work.
dieting by Numbers won't work
dieting by food types wont work
dieting by restriction won't work.
dieting by starvation won't work.
Lets face facts, most diets are starvation diets. Starving works. If you starve, you'll lose weight. Until you begin to eat again, then you'll rebound to a heavier weight than you started with.
diets don't work.
there is no 3 min easy way out.
change your mind
change your though process
Rewire your thinking and your way of doing.
If you want to lose weight (permanently)-change your mental outlook-change your eating habits-change your life style.
eat healthy foods.
If it comes in a package; if you have to 'open' it, its not healthy.
eat small portions often
every time you eat or drink, think to yourself, 'what nutrients am i about to put into my body?'
if its not protein and its not nutrients and its not water, you shouldn't put it into your body (if you want to lose weight). Sugar Is Not a Nutrient.
